MODULAR PROJECT
The Modular Project was commissioned to create a kit of precast concrete building components. The objective was to build better, quicker, and with less labor.
The structural shell can span up to 40' wide to provide a clear and flexible plan. The module is open on both ends and is easily expandable. Skylights and side openings can be added as needed.
Precast concrete sandwich panels utilize an insulated core to reduce weight while improving thermal performance. A complete module can be assembled in just 3-weeks with minimal finishing required.
A 24-part prototype was designed and permitted on a 5-acre site in Joshua Tree, California.
The 1000 SF floor plan promotes open-living and cross ventilation for natural cooling purposes.
The precast panels were exposed as much as possible, emphasizing the permanence and durability of the unique structure in a harsh desert climate.
The main glass window fully opens to embrace the natural surroundings.
